Synopsis:
With a thriving global ecosystem and nearly 300 million devices installed worldwide, LoRa® has captured the largest share of the unlicensed LPWAN market.
LoRas chirp spread spectrum advantages, deep building penetration, open source networking and suitability for private and public networks has drawn thousands of developers and the worlds largest network operators. The LoRa Alliance has grown to over 500 members in just two years and breakthroughs such as LoRa backscatter using 1000X less power with 10 cent sensing devices transmitting up to 1 kilometer may soon make the promise of billions of IoT devices a reality.
Standards based LoRaWAN networks are rolling out worldwide. Complete coverage of nearly all EU countries is completed or underway and most major network operators including Bouygues, Orange, KPN, Proximus and Swisscom are deploying LoRa gateways in thousands of towers, driving new roaming standards, leveraging unlicensed spectrum and aggressively targeting enterprises. In Asia, SK Telecom has one of the first commercial public LoRa networks and SoftBank (ARM) with partner Actility is deploying LoRa services in Japan. Public LoRa networks are deployed across North America by network operators such as Comcasts machineQ service and Senet.
While much of the focus is on public networks, private networks are an essential component of the LoRa ecosystem. By 2028, 60% of LoRa gateways and 40% of device shipments will be in private networks.
ON World has been covering wireless sensor networks (WSN) since 2003 and the low power wide area networks (LPWAN) has many parallels to local area IoT technologies such as Zigbee, Bluetooth Low Energy, WiF, EnOcean and Z-Wave. The forecasts for this research service is based on end uses analysis and data modeling from our research over the past two decades. Our research provides insight on that analysis as well as perspectives from current industry stakeholders about future and current LoRa market segment growth, applications, pricing as well as other threats and opportunities.
In this research service, we cover the growing market opportunities for LoRa/LoRaWAN for utility networks, smart cities, logistics, industrial automation, agriculture, smart buildings and consumers.
Your customized data includes 6-year market size forecasts for connected LoRa devices, annual unit shipments and module/connectivity service revenues by market.
