FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Multi-Billion Dollar Home Area Network
Ecosystem within 5 Years

ON World’s recently published reports cover ZigBee, Wireless Sensor Networking (WSN), and the emerging Smart Energy Home market that could reach $3 billion in 2014.

San Diego, CA, November 10, 2010— Smart Grid initiatives have energized the “Internet of Things” and soon Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology will be deployed in millions of neighborhoods and homes worldwide, according to ON World, a global market research firm.

“The Home Area Network (HAN) is becoming the developer opportunity of the coming decade,” says Mareca Hatler, ON World’s research director.  “Although smart metering is the largest Smart Grid market today, the HAN promises to be the fastest growing with new products and services appearing daily.”

The Smart Energy Home
ON World’s survey with 600 consumers in five continents found that 59% are interested in adopting new technologies that will help them better manage their energy and 81% are willing to pay for energy management equipment if they could save up to 30% on their energy bill.

WSN technologies such as ZigBee and its Smart Energy Profile have drawn developers from the energy, security, Telecom, consumer products, and home networking industries.  Supported by market leaders such as Belkin, Cisco, D-Link and GE, ZigBee has become the preferred HAN technology by Smart Home platform providers worldwide.

Connecting with the HAN
Cloud platforms by Alertme, iControl, Intamac, IJENKO, and uControl target a growing number of service providers that are making HAN services both affordable and accessible for the mass market.  In addition to ADT Security that recently launched its interactive home control service, British Telecom, Bouygues Telecom, Comcast, and Verizon are also planning or already offer HAN services.

By 2015, 250 million wireless chipsets will be used in products for building a smarter grid.

Based on 1000+ phone interviews and surveys with consumers and professionals, ON World’s recently published reports cover ZigBee, smart metering, green buildings, and home energy management.  For more information, go to: http://www.onworld.com/smartgrid
